Pulse-Profile-Maintaining Characteristics of Gain-Switched Nanosecond Raman Fiber Laser and Amplifier

چکیده

This paper investigates pulse-profile-maintaining characteristics of a gain-switched nanosecond Raman fiber laser (RFL) and its amplifier (RFA). It is found that the pulse profiles can be precisely maintained after conversion, only if pump repetition frequency (PRF) an integer multiple of, unit fraction or fractions fundamental cavity-defined PRF. The produced pulses are then amplified in RFA, also maintained. However, it further noticed detuning-induced defects they with itself. All these observed phenomena should originate from transient property gain, not involving any notable delaying saturation effects typically seen rare-earth-doped gain fibers. Our results demonstrate that, scale, Raman-converted well maintain profile shows strong resistance to detune between PRFs pulses. Benefiting we reasonably neglect depletion effect due walk-off various short regimes, which largely simplify design pulsed pumping sources.

Multi-stage Ytterbium Fiber-amplifier Seeded by a Gain-switched Laser Diode

We demonstrated all-fiber amplification of 11 ps pulses from a gain-switched laser diode at 1064 nm. The diode was driven at a repetition rate of 40 MHz and delivered 13 μW of fiber-coupled average output power. For the low output pulse energy of 325 fJ we have designed a multi-stage core pumped pre-amplifier in order to keep the contribution of undesired amplified spontaneous emission as low a...

Gain dispersion induced subpicosecond pulse breakup in a fiber and semiconductor laser amplifier combined system

We observe pulse breakup for 650-fs pulses propagating through 9 m of optical fiber followed by an InGaAsP amplifier. The pulses are broadened by a factor of two, and a second peak appears at about 2 ps after the main peak. To identify the responsible mechanisms, we solve numerically the propagation equations including nonlinear carrier dynamics and gain dispersion. We attribute the broadening ...

The all-fiber cladding-pumped Yb-doped gain-switched laser.

Gain-switching is an alternative pulsing technique of fiber lasers, which is power scalable and has a low complexity. From a linear stability analysis of rate equations the relaxation oscillation period is derived and from it, the pulse duration is defined. Good agreement between the measured pulse duration and the theoretical prediction is found over a wide range of parameters. In particular w...

Single-frequency gain-switched Ho-doped fiber laser.

We demonstrate a single-frequency gain-switched Ho-doped fiber laser based on heavily doped silicate glass fiber fabricated in-house. A Q-switched Tm-doped fiber laser at 1.95 μm was used to gain-switch the Ho-doped fiber laser via in-band pumping. Output power of the single-frequency gain-switched pulses has been amplified in a cladding-pumped Tm-Ho-codoped fiber amplifier with 1.2 m active fi...

Gain-switched all-fiber laser with narrow bandwidth.

Gain-switching of a CW fiber laser is a simple and cost-effective approach to generate pulses using an all-fiber system. We report on the construction of a narrow bandwidth (below 0.1 nm) gain-switched fiber laser and optimize the pulse energy and pulse duration under this constraint. The extracted pulse energy is 20 μJ in a duration of 135 ns at 7 kHz. The bandwidth increases for a higher pump...
